Uncommon Music…for a Common Cause is a concert that takes Jacksonville’s premier musicians out of smaller venues and reveals their talent to the city by bringing them into the Florida Theatre. This allows for a true professional performing experience, all the while benefiting another organization in the same community that supports these musicians, their dreams and their involvement in Jacksonville arts.

The Jacksonville Symphony is opening its doors for the entire community. This family-friendly event features the Symphony Guild’s Instrument Zoo (10 a.m. to noon), live music, games, prizes, backstage tours and a chance to meet Jacksonville Symphony musicians.

Representatives and volunteers will be on hand to give Symphony subscribers their season tickets and Patron Perks. New subscribers can also “test-drive” their seats in Jacoby Symphony Hall. The Symphony Box office will be open for additional customer service.

One-Day Sale: $10 Tickets – For one day only, the Jacksonville Symphony is offering $10 tickets for great seats to more than 20 select performances. Patrons must be present at the August 28 Open House to purchase. Limit four performances.

First Coast No More Homeless Pets presents the 6th annual Art Unleashed, an art show held to raise public awareness of the kill-free solution of spaying and neutering animals, featuers an array of pet-themed art work by local and regional artists, food and frink from more than a dozen local restaurants, and live music. Advance tickets are $50; $55 at the door. Advnace tickets for the Meet the Artists VIP hour (6 – 7 p.m.) are $60; $65 at the door.

MOCA Jacksonville presents Imagination Squared opening September 1st during Artwalk. Artists Christina Foard and Dolf James initiated Imagination Squared: The Creative Response Experiment in order to showcase the importance of arts in education (and life) by giving a stage to the collective creative momentum happening in Jacksonville. Over that last few months they have built hundreds of gessoed boxes with the idea of trying to get one into the hands of every artist in the Jacksonville area and then creating a huge grid to hang in a public location. The result is a snapshot of Jacksonville’s imagination. MOCA Jacksonville is proud to host such an amazing response of over 900 local artists who have all contributed to this community art work.

Come enjoy an evening of chamber music with FSCJ faculty pianist Ileana Fernandez, violinist Piotr Szewczyk, and cellist Lauren Franklin. It’s an entertaining program celebrating Chopin’s 200th birthday, as well as featuring world premiers of works by two local composers, Piotr Szewczyk and Edward Lein.

The South Gallery at Florida State College at Jacksonville presents an exhibition of works by Suzi Berg and David Ponsler. On display are Berg’s energetic and expressive paintings featuring equine and other animal subjects, and Ponsler’s powerful, organic, sculptural forms in forged metal. This exhibit runs through September 24, 2010.
