RICHARD AND OSCAR: FILMAKING IN BLACK AND WHITE: with Norman Studios; a powerful display of the lives of two trailblazers, Richard E. Norman (Norman Studios of Jacksonville, FL) and Oscar Micheaux, first Black film producer; their story of the making of black silent films in the early 1900’s unfolds before your eyes!

Jacksonville is graced with important historic buildings reflective of Louis Sullivan’s architectural genius and style. Likely, the best know is the 1912 Cohen Brother’s Department Store, today’s City Hall. Architect Henry Klutho combined the design principles of Frank Lloyd Wright and Louis Sullivan in the local masterpieced.

Get ready to party – reptile style! Help MOSH throw a 44th birthday bash for its beloved alligator snapping turtle, Tonca. On Saturday, July 10, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Tonca will be honored with activities and games.

Tonca, who resides in an outdoor pond in the Hixon Native Plant Courtyard, will be removed from the pond for his annual check up and weigh in. How much will Tonca weigh this year? Take a guess for a chance to win a prize! (Hint: Last year he tipped the scales at 127 pounds). Or, submit an entry into the coloring contest. Other activities will include going on scavenger hunts, making birthday cards and eating birthday cake. Slithery, scaly party guests from the Jacksonville Herpetological Society will also be in attendance.
